Ans. Shell moulding process
Merits
(i) Better dimensional accuracy and consistency when compared with green sand moulding.
(ii) Less resistance to the flow of liquid metal in the mould.
(iii) Thin sections, short corners, small projections can be accommodated.
(iv) Subsequent machining operations are reduced.
Demerits
(i) More expensive metal pattern than the corresponding pattern for green sand moulding.
(ii) Not justified for small quantities.
