Public and private partnerships in disaster recovery

Discussion:Public and Private Partnerships

Volunteers are a vital resource available to help communities and households recover from an incident. Businesses can also offer various forms of support for a community that has recently suffered damages. In addition to protecting their economic interests, businesses are able to increase their visibility in the community by offering support and helping the rebuilding efforts for community resiliency.

These public and private partnerships may provide emergency managers with extra resources for executing response and recovery operations. However, inherent in fostering these partnerships are the difficulties in establishing agreements, ensuring coordinated approaches for emergency management, and enforcing standards for public and private partnership involvement.

Review the Learning Resources . Reflect on how volunteers, businesses, and public entities might assist with community recovery efforts. Consider the challenges in managing efforts for community recovery.

Post a brief description of your community. Then describe two specific examples of public and private partnerships in disaster recovery. Finally, explain the potential impact of public and private partnerships in disaster recovery. Be specific and provide examples.
