Statement I: The use of lies in law enforcement is standard practice, especially in the modern age. The use of lies can prevent the escalation of a situation, bringing down the threat level for an officer. While many citizens do not believe in the use of lying to serve justice, it is a necessary action when used legally. The use of white lies should be solely used to de-escalate a situation (Harmening, 2016). The text included in this discussion are perfect examples- the use of cuffs, confessing to domestic abuse, and de-escalating a hostage situation.
Statement II: Interrogators often pressure a suspect to provides details or a confession leading to closure of a case. However, when a person that is mentally disabled is being interrogated, they are at a higher risk of providing a false confession (Schatz, 2018).
