The Men's Wearhouse: Success in a Declining Industry
1. Based on the case, describe what is meant by the statement that TMW is in a "declining industry". Be comprehensive.
Imagine you were asked by an executive to explain why their industry is "in decline." Provide the executive with two arguments as to why the industry is declining by discussing various aspects of the environment with concrete evidence.
2. Conduct an internal analysis of TMW:
a. Value Chain Analysis. Identify and explain at least three important value-creating activities for TMW. Make sure to choose at least one primary activity and at least one secondary activity
b. RBV Analysis. Identify a resource that meets the criteria needed to be a foundation for a sustainable competitive advantage, and explain why it fits the criteria.
3. Provide three recommendations for TMW moving forward. Be sure to make recommendations that differ from their existing actions (at the time of the case). Recommendations must be creative, detailed, and realistic in order to receive full points.
