Case Study

The initial head to toe assessment v/s values all within normal range, including B/P (SBP greater than 120 mmHg).  The patient stated, "I have been feeling chills and shivering all morning."  Blood glucose reading 6.1 mmol/L.  At 0730 hours the patient had 125 ml emesis and was given Dimenhydrinate 50 mg IV.  The patient refused to eat breakfast.  When questioned by the student nurse regarding bowel movements the patient stated he had a liquid bowel movement the evening prior.

Questions:

Given the above information which organ systems would you be concerned about?  Provide rationale regarding the pathogenesis for each organ system, along with the corresponding clinical manifestations supporting these pathogenic changes.

Discuss which, if any, of the above medications would be administered and which would be held based on the above stated assessment data.  Provide rationale to support your answer.
