Review the principles and code of ethics of Journalism. Refer to the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Code of Ethics website.
Select an unethical dilemma within a news outlet that has occurred in journalism during the last five years where there were improper ethical decisions. The incident may include bias, plagiarism, inaccurate news reporting, or other related issues. Refer to your text for additional examples.
An example could be Brian Williams, (former anchor and managing editor of "NBC Nightly News") news scandal.
Analyze the example you have chosen. Identify the facts of the incident and ethical principles that were ignored or slighted that caused the incident to occur.
Write a 525 to 700 words paper summarizing your analysis that includes the following:
i. Provide an overview of the facts of the incident.
ii. Provide your opinion on what principles and codes were not adhered to.
iii. Describe the importance of responsibility of the news outlet.
iv. Discuss if the news outlet suffered, i.e., their credibility and/or reputation. What were the ramifications?
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
(1) The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
(2) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
(3) Also include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
