To what extent does a flexible workforce present both a challenge and an advantage to the management of human resources?
You will need to:
Provide a summary of the types of workforce flexibility (numerical, functional, work-life balance) and research evidence about the extent of their use in UK organisations.
Critically discuss the factors which influence the extent of the various types of workforce flexibility - i.e. which types of flexibility are more popular with UK organisations and why?
Critically discuss the challenges and advantages, which the various types of workforce flexibility present to HR managers - i.e. what are the challenges of implementing WLB policies? What advantages and disadvantages do functional and numerical flexibility have for organisations (e.g. in terms of commitment versus control)?
Review the survey report dated may 2012 flexible working provision and uptake.
