Problem:
In class, we discussed some of the pros and cons of automatic and controlled thinking. One consequence of the automatic processing is that it happens so quickly and outside of our awareness that we make the assumption that how we experience the world is objective. We tend to not believe or appreciate that we are actively constructing a subjective experience of reality.
