Sofia is a 9-year-old girl with autism. She has been learning to compliment peers during structured play sessions. She was taught to say "Nice job!" when a peer wins a game. This phrase was taught with Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT) and the use of echoic and/or intraverbal prompts. Sofia now uses this phrase appropriately in the clinic. However, she does not offer compliments in other situations (e.g., when a peer shares a toy or draws a picture), and she never uses alternative phrases like "That's cool!" or "I like that!"
