Proposal: What workplace problem deserves serious investigation?
The ability to spot problems before they turn into serious risks is prized by most managers. Draw on your internship and work experience. Can you identify a problem that could be solved with a small to moderate financial investment? Look for issues such as missing lunch or break rooms for staff; badly needed health initiatives such as gyms or sport club memberships; low-gas-mileage, high-emission company vehicles; or lack of recycling efforts.
Your task: Discuss with your instructor the workplace problem that you have identified, make sure you choose a relatively weighty problem that can be lessened or eliminated with minor expenditures. Be sure to include a cost-benefit analysis. Address your unsolicited letter or memo proposal to your current or former boss and copy your instructor.
