Projections by the U.S. Census Bureau show the United States becoming older and more ethnically diverse by the middle of the century (Bernstein & Edwards, 2008). Currently, minorities comprise one-third of the U.S. population, but are expected to become the majority by 2042, with 54% of the population projected to be of minority status in 2050 (Bernstein & Edwards, 2004). What impact will this have on developing health policy regulations and the delivery of care by healthcare professionals?
