Community Support Service
Purpose: This assignment provides the student an opportunity to examine in depth a local cancer support service such as Hospice, Wellness Community, the American Cancer Society or community based program offered by a hospital. It is important that Radiation Therapists be aware of community resources to assist in meeting the needs of patients.
Assignment:
1. Select a community support organization
2. Go to website and gather all required information below and write a college level paperAPA format.
3. Write a paper to include:
a. Title, address, phone # and contact person
b. Philosophy of organization
c. Advertisement/information pamphlets (can be in the form of an annotated bibliography)
d. Services offered by organization
e. How patients are referred
f. Which patients are referred
g. What ethnic, age, gender groups make use of this service - if it is limited find out why.
h. What is the cost
i. What is/are the service/s offered
j. How does the patient make use of the service - do they have to drive; is it during the day or night, weekends?
k. Summary of the organizations effectiveness and limitations.
Key Point Think of all the patients you treat (in the eyes of a Radiation Therapist)- how useful is the organization to All patients? Which would it work for - which would it not work for. Think comprehensively.
