Design the building:

This submittal will include RESEARCH focused on your thesis project and type. Each section should include an ANALYSIS + APPLICATION section. Everything should be in final professional format and updated if any changes have occurred. Include the following at minimum:

  • Cover page & Table of Contents
  • Project Description - including model client, mentor, building location, type, etc.
  • Project Type Design RESEARCH - including RESEARCH sections specific to your type

o Organizational chart - how does your specialization work?

o User Analysis - Description of anticipated users, circulation diagrams and descriptions - ANALYSIS + APPLICATION

  • Pre-Design Investigation

o Existing Building History, Analysis & Application

» Structural systems - description & diagram

» Distribution systems (HVAC, Thermal & Plumbing) - description & diagram

o Integrated Design practices - description

o Contextual Data & Global Context Implications

  • Post Occupancy Evaluations

o Goals, objectives - related RESEARCH

IAD 452: IAD STUDIO VI - THESIS 1

  • Budget - What does RESEARCH say your budget should be, how did you come up with this number?
  • Industry-specific regulations- Description/RESEARCH, Analysis & Application
  • Zoning- Description/RESEARCH, Analysis & Application
  • Laws, Codes, Standards and Guidelines - provide a summary of codes you must apply to your project and several diagrams showing occupancy (classification, occupant loads, plumbing required), egress (exits, placement of exits, exit width, longest travel distance, common path of travel, dead end corridor, requirements with egress, width, spacing, distance...), fire protection (fire separation, rating walls and doors, fire alarms, fire extinguishers)
  • Building Diagrams/Graphics - Provide floor plans of at least 3 additional things you can represent graphically that will enforce your design, concept, elements, principles, goals, etc. focusing on RESEARCH, ANALYSIS & APPLICATION
  • Works Cited Page

Half of your construction documents must be turned in at this point. Those listed below in bold, must be turned in, you can pick from the categories listed below. The more you turn in the more feedback you will receive. Review these with your mentor prior to turning them in.
