Problem related to introducing a telescope

Problem:

I have to interpret a passage and thesis statement with an overall argument to this quote,

"I know no better method of introducing so large a subject, than that of comparing a single thing with a single thing; an eye, for example, with a telescope. As far as the examination of the instrument goes, there is precisely the same proof that the eye was made for vision, as there is that the telescope was made for assisting it"

These were the questions provided, "What were they saying and why? Also, why would they have thought that in the first place?"

What should my thesis be and 3 arguments alongside? What could the evidence be?
