Problem regarding the race, ethnicity, and immigration

Problem:

A Good Response For This Discussion Forum

The topic that I have enjoyed the most would be race, ethnicity, and immigration. When learning how ideas about race socially construct immigration policies, I learned how races aren't treated equally and that there are inequalities within society. I also feel like I gained background knowledge on why certain policies were created. I learned about how the public felt about immigration during the Chinese Exclusion Act and Immigration Act of 1924. I feel confident that I could discuss policies during these eras. However, I do not feel too confident when it comes to the arguments surrounding immigration these days. I would like to learn more about DACA and the experiences of those who are undocumented immigrants.

The material that I have struggled with would be social control/crime. Topics that required higher-level thinking were the social theories of crime. It took me a while to understand how all the different theories (structural strain, social learning, etc.) play a role in society. I want to understand how these theories can be applied to our society. For example, how mass incarceration affects communities of color. I plan on going back over the social theories and make sure I have a good grasp on them before the midterm.

Study techniques that I have used to prepare for the midterm would be studying with my classmates and taking notes. I like to go over my notes and rewrite the chapters of the textbook in my own words. I also like to use Google to search up video lectures to help me understand certain topics.

I would like to revisit civility and social responsibility. Topics that stood out to me were how being indifferent hurts social movements. I would like to learn more about how we can take responsibility to help create change. I want to learn more about activism and ways we can help others.

The study tips that I have found useful from my classmates are studying with others. It's great to hear other people's perspectives and what they think will be on the test. My advice for my classmates would be to pay attention to how things we learn apply to the real world. As sociologists, we learn about information that we can relate to real life.

I plan to study with my classmates and ask my professor questions if there are topics that I do not understand. I believe that if I keep preparing myself with knowledge before the exam, I will be set up for success on not only the midterm but also in life. This class has taught me you can't sit back and watch while others are being oppressed. Need Assignment Help?
