Problem regarding the parasympathetic nervous system

Problem:

The tenth cranial nerve is the Vagus nerve. The Vagus nerve, "is part of the parasympathetic nervous system and helps to control heart rate, digestion, and respiratory rate, among other functions. Issues might include difficulty swallowing, changes in heart rate, loss of the gag reflex, and potential problems with digestion" (Mira 1). In more depth, if the Digestive System has dysfunction it can lead to gastroparesis, which is where the stomach can't empty correctly. This can cause nausea, vomiting, and problems with blood sugar levels. Next if Heart Rate is affected palpitations or an abnormally high heart rate, a condition known as tachycardia may occur. Next, if the Respiratory System has dysfunction it can lead breathing problems due to a not as responsive diaphragm. Finally, is your Mood and Immune Response are affected it might contribute to depression or hurt the body's ability to deal with inflammation (Mira). Overall, if the Vagus nerve is dysfunctional it can be detrimental to one's health and well being.
