Problem regarding power dynamic flashcards

Problem:

I need a response to this discussion post including a question: One of the power techniques discussed in the Power Dynamic Flashcards is interrupting. When one person repeatedly interrupts another, they take control of the conversation and send the message that their opinions or ideas are more important. If this happens often within a family, it can leave other members feeling ignored, frustrated, or unwilling to share their thoughts. Over time, this can damage trust and communication. One way I could block this technique from being successful is by calmly setting a boundary instead of reacting emotionally. I could say something like, "I'd like to finish what I was saying, and then I'll listen to your thoughts." This acknowledges the other person's perspective while also making it clear that everyone deserves the opportunity to speak. Responding this way helps shift the conversation back to respectful communication instead of allowing one person to dominate it. As a future behavioral health professional, I think it's important to recognize these power dynamics because they can reveal unhealthy communication patterns within families. Helping family members practice active listening and respectful turn-taking can create a more balanced environment where everyone feels heard and valued (Goldenberg et al., 2017).
