Problem regarding patient who has diabetes

Assignment task:

EMR Caden is called to a home to help a patient who has diabetes. The patient has been attempting to manage a wound on his left foot, but he says that, when he woke up this morning, his foot was hot and throbbing. He looked down to see that there was fluid leaking from the bandage. Caden gently unrolls the bandage that the patient has put in place, and as he does, a wave of a foul smell hits him. The inside of the open wound has turned black, and the area around it is oozing pus. Caden lets the patient know that he will need to be transported to the hospital right away. If the patient does not agree to go, what might happen next?

  • The patient might develop lockjaw from the tetanus infection in his foot.
  • The patient might go into shock as the gangrene spreads to his bloodstream.
  • The patient might have an anaphylactic reaction to the bacteria in the wound.
  • The patient may go into a diabetic coma because of his uncontrolled blood sugar.
