"Inductive Thematic analysis, also referred to as bottom-up analysis, begins with observing what participants say to build themes, then generating a theory (Braun & Clarke, 2006). The researcher first needs to understand the transcripts and what the participants are saying, and then align what the participants are saying and the meaning to the researcher's theoretical assumptions and methods, so that the results are valid and trustworthy (Naeem et al., 2023). Deductive thematic analysis uses pre-existing theories or frameworks to guide code and theme development (Braun & Clarke, 2006).
Deductive thematic analysis uses hypotheses to test or confirm theories in a top-down approach using theories, models, or codes to guide the data analysis (Naeem et al., 2023).
