Problem: Acknowledge and respond to the following: When working with a client who has a trauma history and is experiencing depression and anxiety, I've learned that their environment often plays just as much of a role as the trauma itself. One major social determinant I would pay attention to is housing stability. If a client is living in an unsafe or unpredictable environment, the body stays on alert. Mader (2023) explains that chronic stress affects hormone levels and the nervous system, which can make symptoms like anxiety and depression even more intense. Another factor is income and employment. Financial strain wears people down emotionally. When someone is deciding between paying rent, buying groceries, or getting transportation to work, it can create a level of stress that affects both the mind and body. It also impacts their ability to access consistent care, which keeps them stuck in the same cycle. Lastly, I would look at access to healthcare. Clients who have experienced discrimination or come from underserved communities, struggle to get mental health support. That's where our role in advocacy, human rights, and ADEI really matters. Understanding these social determinants helps me assess the whole person and support them in ways that are realistic, respectful, and empowering. Need Assignment Help?
