Among adolescents aged 13 to 14, 43% reported using alcohol, and 10% were considered regular users (Swendsen et al., 2012). By the time they reached 17 and 18 years old, alcohol use increased to 78%, with 47% of these individuals being regular users (Swendsen et al., 2012). Gore et al. (2011) and Ward et al. (2021) found that alcohol consumption significantly contributes to health issues and increased mortality in youth aged 10 to 24 years. Luczak et al. (2014), Najjar et al. (2016), and Kugbey et al. (2025) have found that religion also influences alcohol use. In countries where Islam is the main religion, strict regulations are enforced on accessing and drinking alcohol (Luczak et al., 2015; Kugbey et al., 2025). In many African traditional cultures, such as those with indigenous religions, alcohol plays an important role in rituals (Acuda et al., 2011; Kugbey et al., 2025).
