Problem based on computing research project

Assignment Title: Research Project

Project Title: "An apps for smartphones called "Digital Comrade" that prevents smartphone users from digital hazards and help them to maintain digital well-being of physical and mental health"

Project Topic: Digital Wellbeing feature should be inseparable from the smartphones as recent world community of smartphone users physical and mental health are in great danger. Replacement of many other electronic gadgets, appliances by the smartphones, notifications associated with these options and virtual games are responsible to keep attaching the users with their smartphones. Ultimately addiction develops among the users. This project is aiming to develop an apps for smartphones that can plays an important role of Digital wellbeing of smartphone users.

Scenario: You are Studying BTEC HND in CSD in BAC International Study Centre.

BAC International Study Centre is arranging a project showcase on "Digital Wellbeing" for the student.

Digital Wellbeing is about fashioning and sustaining a healthy relationship with technology. As technology plays a big part in our lives we find ourselves spending an increasing amount of time online and on our devices. Our wellbeing is dependent upon our mental and physical health and thereby our digital wellbeing is influenced by our online interactions and the amount of time we spend on our devices. Whilst technology and the internet can simplify and enhance our lives they can also be distracting, be a cause of anxiety, and make us feel upset. Being in control of technology enables us to use its full potential and gain all the benefits of it.

This project showcase will enable students to explore some of the areas of digital wellbeing from the standpoint of a prospective computing professional. It will provide the opportunity for students to investigate digital wellbeing within computing systems and explore the responsibilities and solutions to the problems presented.

As a student, all of you have been asked to prepare a Research Project on "Digital Wellbeing" for showcase. In the research project, you have to evaluate different research approaches and methodology. Also apply analytical tool and explore your research findings. After preparing the research project you have to present it in the seminar with an appropriate manner for the intended audience.

BAC International Study Centre gave you a document for research project guidelines and a task list, which are given below:

Research Project Guidelines:

You should read this information before starting to define and work through your research brief. You should refer to these instructions as you complete work for this unit.

Consider the development of a methodical and valid research proposal as the foundation for the project.

Choose a topic of personal interest in a specialism. The topic chosen should allow a sufficient and suitable degree of research through the existence of adequate background materials.

A good project proposal title should meet the following criteria:

- The proposal is one that has an existing body of literature or source material that can be reviewed.

- The proposal extends a current line of learning that will lend itself to further rigorous exploration.

Decide on appropriate research methods and select an appropriate sample.

Ensure that your proposal is ethical, reliable and valid. An ethics form must be submitted prior to completion of research as part of the research proposal.

Agree your research proposal with your tutor before beginning your research.

Conduct your research as outlined in the proposal agreed with your tutor.

Carry out your research, analyse your research findings and draw conclusions. Apply both qualitative and quantitative research methods to evaluate data collected from primary research.

Communicate your research outcomes in a manner appropriate to your audience.

You will be asked to reflect on the success of your research project and evaluate the problems/issues encountered.

On the following pages, there is an example of a research project brief.

You must complete the research project in order to complete your work for this unit.

Computing Research Project Brief:

Define your research problem or question. This can be stated as a research question, objectives or hypothesis.

Provide a literature review giving the background and conceptualisation of your proposed area of study. This would provide existing knowledge and benchmarks by which your data can be judged.

Consider and define your research methodology and research process. Demonstrate understanding of the pitfalls and limitations of the methods chosen and ethical issues that might arise.

Draw points (1-3, above) together into a research proposal for agreement with your tutor.

Conduct your research as outlined in your proposal. Keep track of your findings as you work.

Carry out your research and analyse your findings in relation to your original research question. Draw conclusions.

Communicate the outcomes of your research project to the identified audience.

Reflect on the success of your research project and your performance at the end of the project with the inclusion of a project evaluation and recommendations.

Tasks:

Task 1: Produce a research proposal for the topic area you have chosen that clearly defines a research question or hypothesis supported by a literature review. Submit this proposal to your tutor.

Task 2: Examine appropriate research methods and approaches for the chosen topic area to primary and secondary research.

Task 3: Evaluate different research approaches and methodology and make justifications for the choice of methods selected based on philosophical/theoretical frameworks for the research project.

Task 4: Conduct primary and secondary research using appropriate methods for the computing research project you have chosen that consider costs, access and ethical issues.

Task 5: Apply appropriate analytical tools, analyse research findings and data for the computing research project.

Task 6: Discuss merits, limitations and pitfalls of approaches to data collection and analysis for the project.

Task 7: Critically evaluate the research methodologies and processes in application to the computing research project to justify chosen research methods and analysis.

Task 8: Communicate research outcomes of the project in an appropriate manner (eg: presentation) for the intended audience.

Task 9: Coherently and logically communicate outcomes to the intended audience demonstrating how outcomes meet set research objectives of the project.

Task 10: Communicate critical analysis of the outcomes and make valid, justified recommendations in your presentation.

Task 11: Then reflect on the effectiveness of research methods applied for meeting objectives of the computing research project.

Task 12: Consider alternative research methodologies for the chosen research project and lessons learnt in view of the outcomes.

Task 13: Provide critical reflection and insight of the research that result in recommended actions for improvements and future research considerations.

Task 14: Demonstrate reflection and engagement in the resource process leading to recommended actions for future improvement of the research project.
