The LAX Bomber was a great catch by Inspector Diana Dean with her great instincts she was able to detain Ahmed Ressam and probably saved hundreds of Americans lives by preventing the LAX bomber. Yes, the LAX bomber fits the profile of twenty-first century terrorism. Twenty-first century terrorism, such as al Qaeda operatives-maintained communication through cell phones, satellite phones, and email. Although Ressam stated he had conceived the idea himself, he stated that al- Qaeda knew about it, which shows they were in communication. Ressam also admitted to experience in Afghan terrorist camps. The LAX bomber and 9/11 were different because the LAX bomber, was only one terrorist compared to 9/11 where there were 19 terrorists that boarded four different planes. The 9/11 attack was more strategically planned with back up plans in place to make sure the attack was not derailed. Al- Qaeda also took years to plan the 9/11 attack compared to the LAX bomber who stated he only planned it for several months.

The LAX bomber and 9/11 attack were similar in many ways. The first similarity is that they both were driven by al-Qaeda's Islamist extremist vision and anti-U.S. sentiment. They also both targeted public places wanting mass destruction.

For each terrorist attack that occurs in America, there will be a lesson that can be learned and knowledge to prevent further attacks. The lesson that was learned from the millennium bomb plot was to continue to have vigilant border control and the importance of information sharing. Ressam was using a fake driver's license; with better security this should have also been able to alert authorities to help prevent the attack.
