Problem about active listening and empathic listening

Problem:

Reply to this discussion in 100 words: Active listening and empathic listening are key communication skills when engaging people as a whole. Active listening focuses on fully understanding a message that is being communicated. It requires mental engagement and intentional behaviors such as maintaining eye contact, nodding, and avoiding distractions. Verbal techniques like paraphrasing and asking follow up questions help confirm understanding. An example may be, a paraphrased repeat of a discussion like, "So Budget issues a what basically slowed down the project, correct?" This repeating helps reduce misunderstandings and ensure both parties share the same interpretation (Helms-Stevens, 2022, p. 176).

Emphatic listening, on the other hand, centers on understanding the speakers emotions, rather than just the facts. It involves withholding judgment and showing genuine concern for the other persons for the other persons personal experience. An emphatic example would be like, "It seems like this change is a bit overwhelming". You acknowledge their emotions which build trust and helps defuse situations especially during stressful situations (Helms-Stevens, 2022, p. 178).

So both listening styles depend on authentic communication. It's best to be honest, transparent, and genuine which builds credibility and trust. Without authenticity, even skilled listening can feel forced or insincere which just brings down the workplace environment. Need Assignment Help?
