Problem:
Imagine you are new clinician to the field of substance-related and addictive disorders. You have a first visit with a new client (John) who has just relapsed on heroin for the sixth time and states, "I give up. I can't win with this addiction." After reading chapter 14, you realized that you needed to have a great deal of "medically-oriented" information in order to be effective with this client. After doing your initial assessment and looking over "Making Ethical Decisions" (found in the Great Clinical Tools Module), it is clear what you need to do first with this client. Report to the class how you are going to proceed and how you came to that decision.
