Prior to the development of weather as a hard science with precise instrumentation and the study of atmospheric motions, weather forecasts were made using observations and other occurrences in nature. Many atmospheric optics were used to predict weather events and some have been written into folklore. Other repetitive observations may have worked their way into analogue forecasting, but many are just sayings in regional areas that developed into old-timers' predictions of approaching weather.
