Project description
Many of you will one day become CFOs in publicly traded companies. In this project, you will learn to get familiar with one of your future jobs: preparing the Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) section of the annual reports. The following is the instructions for the project.
1. Go to Edgar: www.sec.gov and locate the most recent 10-Ks for your two assigned companies.
2. Read the MD&A sections of your two companies. Write a report that includes the following:
A comparison of the two MD&As, e.g., is there any information that one company discloses but the other does not and vice versa?
Your conjecture on why those two companies choose to report different information (the tone, the amount, the level of detail, or the type) in their MD&As.
Your assessment of which information is redundant and which information is valuable from an investors point of view.
3. The main text of the report should be 3-5 pages. The required font is Times New Roman, the required size is 12, and the report should be single-spaced. You could supplement graphs or figures to make the report more readable but they are not required.
