This portfolio will consist of:
- Practice report with analysis
- LinkedIn Profile (please ask your Line Manager/Superior for permission to submit a profile on LinkedIn. If you are unable to submit on LinkedIn, please advise your tutor). or
- CV using the MBA template

Item 1: The Practice Report

Title: "Managing Across Cultures"

You are asked to prepare a report on the above topic, Managing Across Cultures. In class we looked at the Power Point entitled "The Assignment" and "Writing for Success". In "The Assignment", you have been given the Introduction:

Introduction
In today's global economy, working with people from different cultures is becoming the norm. Although this brings many rewards it also introduces challenges for both workers and management alike. All managers know that motivating their staff is the key to a successful business. To do this, they must understand what drives their staff. But what if their staff, seem to think and behave in unexpected ways? This can happen when people from very different cultures work together. Organisations are beginning to realise the importance of training their managers to become inter-culturally competent in order to ensure their staff continue to be motivated and productive.

The main issues to be discussed in this report are:
- How culture influences working styles
- Different management styles
- The importance of training managers to become inter-culturally competent

An important outcome of your portfolio is your personal profile. This is your ‘calling card' and is a way of entering the international world of business. Linkedin is not just a tool to promote yourself but also a way to network with people and organisations that may be useful to you or your organisation.

We also ask you to submit a traditional CV using the format used in your country. This is to make you aware of your ‘audience' and to understand the expectations of different markets, both domestic and international.

Although the skills acquired in this unit will be assessed through other units in the MBA programme, the completion of the Personal and Professional Development Portfolio is compulsory to demonstrate your engagement with the process of learning embedded in your MBA. If you do not complete the two parts of the PPD portfolio, you cannot pass your MBA.

The Practice Report

The practice report gives you the opportunity to use the writing and referencing skills revised in workshop 1 to prepare a report on a given topic. This report will be assessed and you will be given feedback on your abilities to write effectively. This report and the feedback will form PPD 1

The LinkedIn Profile or MBA CV

The CV

There is no such thing as the perfect CV. Your CV must be continually updated as you develop more skills. You need also to compose a CV that reflects any position you are applying for. You are asked to complete a CV using the MBA Template

LinkedIn Profile

Today many Executives are using LinkedIn to promote their organisations and themselves. As a member of LinkedIn you have access to many professionals and international companies around the world. Although we encourage you to have a LinkedIn profile, it is not compulsory and it is important to ask your line manager for permission before you create your LinkedIn profile, particularly if you are in a sensitive area such as Government Departments. Remember LinkedIn is not just used as a recruiting tool (although it does that) but it is useful for connecting with professionals in your industry as well as promoting your organisation.
