Assignment Purpose: This activity aims to give you a push towards your final project.

Instructions: Two options for your final project for you to consider are:

Option A: Present a synthesis of your company's Corporate, SBU or Functional Area (FA) strategic plan

Possible outline (for an SBU plan) and estimated length is provided for your guidance:

A) Provide a brief history/overview of your firm. Describe your company's line(s) of products/services, your industry scope/boundaries and segmentation and the scope (product/markets) of your firm's activities; and which business or segment your analysis will focus on (1-1.5 pages).

B) Analyze your company's (SBU) external situation and trends (PESTEL, Micro-environment, Maturity, Porter's 5 forces, KSFs and their weights, competitor and customer analysis) (2-3 pages).

C) Analyze your internal environment including ambitions, culture, capabilities and core competencies, key aspects of your value chain and your risk profile (2-3 pages); concluding with a focused SWOT analysis.

D) Briefly review past strategies and describe how successful they were and the reasons for their successes or shortfalls (1 page).

E) Propose SBU strategies for the coming 3-5 years (where you plan to compete and how) and significant functional strategies - eg., marketing , sales, HR, IT, operations - along with objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs). (3 pages).

F) Discuss potential implementation issues (communicating the strategy, challenges foreseen, suggestions, timeline, migration plan) (1 page).

G) Forecast results (3-5 years) for 2 scenarios (Sales, profits, market share,..) (1 page).

Option B: Prepare a business plan for a start-up venture (10 to 15 pages plus annexes).

You may do this project on your own, or team up with one other person if you both intend to bunch the venture. You may use the format discussed in class or a different approach.

For the financial analysis and projections please ensure that you cover the following:

Determine the capital needed and the best way to raise it, and explain why you chose one financing mechanism over another

Estimate your cost of capital

Calculate NPV, IRR and payback period

Provide three scenarios (base case, best case and worst case)

Identify the risks involved and the different ways to mitigate them

Make a convincing case for investors to entice them into joining your venture or for the bank to lend you the money. Please disguise any confidential information.

Note - Need only option B. Make a strategic plan to set a real estate brokerage in Dubai, focusing on selling Dubai properties for investors in Dubai and international investors who are interested in Dubai market. At the same time use the same company to sell international real estate especially in Europe and maybe USA markets to investors from Dubai and GCC Market.
