The overall results of the study indicated that GRE quantitative scores were not strong predictors of success in psychology doctoral programs and may function as a barrier for capable ethnic minority applicants. The researchers found significant racial and ethnic disparities in GRE quantitative scores. Ethnic minority students generally scored lower on the quantitative section of the GRE compared to White students. However, these lower scores did not correspond to poorer performance in doctoral training. Minority students who were admitted often performed similarly to their peers across multiple indicators of graduate success.
