A farmer needs to pump water from an underground water source to water stock. He has a choice of a windmill, solar panels or diesel powered pump. He needs a reliable water supply. Using the common definition for reliability, compare the three options and which one would you consider to be the most reliable to perform the function. Identify any relevant conditions or constraints.
Problem 3: A regional community hospital is considering a backup power supply in case of power failure. To help with the selection process a reliability prediction and forecasting study is required. Describe what you would want to include in a model so that the correct method could be chosen to model and predict the reliability of the power supply.
