Assignment Task: Analysis of News Article or peer-reviewed journal paper/or Policy Debate
Find a recent news article (peer-reviewed journal paper) or Policy debate related to microeconomic issues, e.g., the market for a product, an industry, or an individual firm. Use the microeconomic concepts/theories of the course (supply and demand, international trade, elasticity and government policies, social welfare and externalities, public goods, competition, and theory of production) to analyze the situation described in the news article paper/policy debate. Discuss the important events raised in the article and explain how they affect the industry or the firm under study based on course concepts. If applicable, provide recommendations on how to address issues raised in the article. The recommendations must be grounded in economic thinking. NB: Please, provide a proper citation of any resource used in this work. Use the APA standard for the format of your final report.
Note that, if you chose to work on this topic, the article paper or policy debate has to be on trending recent issues and no more (2020 the earliest). Once you choose the article paper policy debate, write a critical essay (around 1000 words, 1-2) using the information and evidence you retrieve from your principal source of the issue (the article, paper, or policy debate). Note that you are supposed to provide a critical review of the issue in connection with the concepts that you learned in the course, IN YOUR OWN WORDS. The main purpose of this term analysis is to learn more about the course in light of the empirical evidence and research works. Do make use of additional sources to support your argument wherever necessary. Please cite any additional sources you might use. Your essay is evaluated based on the content, originality, and substance in connection to the economic theories you learned in this course.
