PM alone cannot eliminate or drastically reduce breakdowns. Supporting it there should be various steps taken in design development and engineering such that maintenance itself is found rarely necessary(maintenance prevention MP). If ever maintenance is required the maintainability should be high ( i, e, reduction in losses of time effort resources).
