Response to the following problem:

(a) Calculate the load and resistance factors using the data of Exercise 1 and a reliability of 99%.

(b) Calculate the resulting safety factor.

Exercise 1:

Consider a material with measured strength values F given in Table . Assume the expected stress values to be one-half of the values in Table. Calculate the safety factor and the reliability of the system.

Example 1:

Consider the experimental observations of strength reported in Table .Sort the data into 7 bins of equal width ?S to cover the entire range of the data. Build a histogram reporting the number of observations per bin. Compute the mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variance. Plot the histogram. Plot the normal probability density function.
