The objective should be to have the program officer (1) read and (2) respond positively to your inquiry. It can be addressed to a real person at the foundation you are soliciting, or to someone imaginary. 2. Above your email, state what the goal of your email is. What kind of result do you want? Your colleagues in class will read your email as if they are its recipients. Your stated goal will be the main standard of your success. Examples of goals: • Get a face-to-face meeting to discuss your project. • Schedule a phone conversation to discuss your inquiry. • Invite the officer to an event that is related to your project or is sponsored by your organization.
