Article Summary and Critique

  • Please choose one long article or two short articles of the same topic relating to microeconomics or macroeconomics for your summary and critique.
  • It is expected that the original articles you select be at least 10 paragraphs long in total. This is suggested in order that you have sufficient information to report in your summary. (A line does not entail a paragraph. If your article has a line then a space and a line etc. consider at least 3 lines as a paragraph.
  • Articles for review may be located from local newspapers, the Wall Street Journal (Newspaper), magazines, or articles from the internet - at a reliable source such as major news media networks ABC, MSNBC, etc.
  • Identify if the articles are microeconomics or macroeconomics.
  • Summarize the articles "in your own words". Do not plagiarize. Plagiarism is academic dishonesty. Anyone who plagiarizes will get a zero for the assignment.

Note:  Changing a word here or there and using synonyms but still using the author's words, or changing  'a' to 'the', or past tense to present tense, or singular to plural, etc. does NOT make it your work.  You will get a zero for any plagiarized work.

  • In addition, you are required to write up a critique. For example: Discuss how the articles are relevant to the economic principles and concepts covered in the course. Also, does it cover information that go beyond the material in the course? Would you recommend these economics articles for others to read? (Why or Why not?). What conclusions can you make about the article(s), etc. etc.
  • Include a reference (citation) i.e. provide the titles of the articles used, the names of the author(s) of the articles, the date it was published, and the organization that published it.
