General brief about the assignment- PIPA Policy Papers.
You are required to write one 7-page single-spaced paper on a selected problem in international communication and negotiation. These "briefs" relate specific country cases to the broader concepts and theories of culture, conflict management and policy formulation. I will circulate a sign-up sheet for student selection during the second week of class. The paper (including its presentation) comprises 25% of your grade. The paper is not a term paper, but a public policy "briefing paper" on an issue. I, as the director of the fictitious Pepperdine Institute for Policy Analysis (PIPA), am receiving an outrageous consultant's fee for advising the State Department on what American policies towards vexing cross-cultural diplomatic issues should be on these particular issues. You, my assistants, are preparing the briefing papers for me and for general discussion in front of the entire Institute (class).
