To brainstorm for the essay, list the reasons you feel strongly about the issue.

To brainstorm for the refutation, list the reasons why others might disagree with you.

Explain your position to your audience early in the paper and make your best case for your position. Develop one argument per body paragraph. Give a minimum of three arguments for your position (see list from no. 2 above).

Try to refute the arguments of your opposition at appropriate points in the body of the essay. Refute a minimum of two arguments (see list from no. 3 above).

Check the tone of your essay to make you sure have not offended your opponents whom you are trying to convince.

You may need to do research and cite evidence for your position, depending upon the topic you choose.
