Phases of viruses
Viruses have two phases to their existence
- Inside their host cells where they exhibit certain living characteristics.
- outside their host where they appear as discrete particles, and can be considered non-living. You can thus see that viruses exist on the borderline between living and non-living things. They show living traits when present within the host cell; out of the living host cell they are just like any other non-living particle.
