Person state of consciousness


Discuss how the employ of substances changes the person’s state of consciousness, comprising depressants, hallucinogens, and stimulants. Include in this description what occurs to the neurotransmitters and body chemicals and how you may recognize if a person at work or in your family is in the altered state of consciousness because of the influence of drugs.

This question has five (5) parts. One of cornerstones of Freudian theory is concept of the unconscious not to be confused with state of being knocked unconscious by blow to the head.

(b) When is it advantageous for much of our behaviour to be unconscious?
(c) When is it not advantageous?
(d) If much of our behaviour is unconscious, can you recognize unconscious behaviour in yourself and in others?
(e) How would you recognize behaviour was unconsciously driven?

Group think is the concept which involves individuals abandoning their critical sense and agreeing to group procedure even when they know it will have disastrous effects. (Challenger disaster, Enron, Iraq war, etc.) Your will face such pressures in your work life and require to be prepared. Have you ever done something in the group which you would not have done if you were unaccompanied? What occurred? How did you experience? What have you learned from this chapter which might aid you avoid this behaviour in future, and avoid group think?

How does prejudice develop and how might it be supported in families and in the work place? Do you believe that you are free of prejudice? After reading this chapter, which of the many factors that cause prejudice do you think is most important to change?
