On average, 10 customers arrive per hour, and the average service time is 4 minutes (i.e., two minutes to take the order and two minutes to fill the order). The manager is wondering if each worker should be an order taker and an order filler, thus opening up two lines. Performing both tasks of taking and filling an order would take an average of 6 minutes total. Assuming that customers will line up in equal numbers in front of each register, calculate the average waiting time in line and the average queue length for each configuration. Which configuration would you recommend?
