Using the stiffness method, determine the reactions at the supports, the fixed end moment & BM & SF diagrams of steel beam shown in Figure 1. Show the stiffness matrices for each member and the assembled global stiffness matrix. You may use any convenient method for manipulating matrices. E (Steel) is 200 GPa , Poisson's ratio 0.3 and Beam section details can be found in One Steel product catalogue. (An extract of one steel catalogue has been posted on the study desk).

Perform a FEA structural analysis using Creo4.0 simulate for the Steel beam as shown in Figure

Use 2D FEA analysis. Sub-divide the beam appropriately to obtain uniform stress/strain and displacement outputs. Using FEA results,

1. Plot a vertical (Y) displacement of the beam along its axis

2. Plot BM and SF diagram for the beam.

3. Determine the reactions at supports.

4. Compare FEA results and the manual calculations Q1.1

5. What are the bending and total axial stress of the beam and the locations along the beam?

6. Verify FEA bending stress with an appropriate manual calculation.
