Problem: I need a response to this discussion post including a question: Looking at my extended family, I do not really notice a clear pattern in who marries whom based on birth order. There is actually a pretty big mix, so I do not think there is one trend that stands out. Some older siblings have married younger siblings, while others have married people who were also the oldest or youngest in their families. One thing I did notice is that both of my cousins on my mom's side married oldest siblings, but beyond that, there does not seem to be any consistent pattern across my family. I think birth order can influence certain personality traits, such as being more responsible, independent, or easy going, but I do not believe it determined who someone will marry or whether their marriage will be successful. Things like shared values, communication, trust, and commitment seem much more important than where someone falls in their family. While birth order may shape some behaviors or expectations growing up, every person has unique experiences that affect how they approach relationships. Research also suggests that birth order alone does not determine a person's future or destiny, even if it may have some influence on development (Frye, 2013).
