PAPER TOPIC
Identity, Work, Family, and Intimacy for Women in their early 20's. I'll be analyzing the characters in the HBO TV show "Girls."
This assignment has two parts:
1) In bold text, tell me your paper topic
2) Choose an advertising campaign (Google searches are helpful here here). Then, using what you've learned in the textbook and class lectures and screenings write a blog post about what the advertising campaign says about class. Posts that do not engage with class lecture on advertising, branding, or the film The Century of the Self will not receive full credit. You may consider using a semiotic analysis approach if you wish.
Word count: 500 minimum (please try to stay under 800 words).
Title: create an attention-grabbing title for your post
Description: Explain which ad campaign you looked at. Explain the ad briefly as if the reader has not seen it. Work on being concise with your words and make each word "count." Eliminate unnecessary fluff.
Findings: Using the book and class film, what is the significance of the ad? Work on having a clear argument or point of view. Use the blog to let your own voice/opinion be heard. For this post it might be useful to embed photos or videos.
Remember, blog posts should be written for a wider audience (aka, pretend that you're writing this for someone who has never taken a media or gender class). Would your post be interesting and make sense to a friend who is not enrolled in Media Literacy? Perhaps you should use photos or links to enhance your post and make it more "conversational."
