The purpose of this assignment is to help you to understand what the best practices are related to conducting a performance appraisal interview. It is a formal, relatively infrequent process in which an employee's performance is evaluated along with a predetermined set of criteria quantified via a formal performance score. The Performance Appraisal Interview Typically, performance appraisals take place once a year. Normally data is collected about an employee for the year, which is kept in their employee file. The employee's manager will use the information collected on the employee's performance for the year and use a performance appraisal instrument. The manager will give the employee a rating and feedback. The manager will meet with the employee to show them the appraisal instrument, discuss the rating and information that led to that rating. The discussion aims for managers and employees to reflect on past performance to improve future performance. There is a wrong way and a right way for managers to conduct a performance appraisal interview with their staff.
