A local historical society and the history faculty of a university have registered a non-profit company k now as "Heritage Settlement Village Incorporated". Their purpose is to establish a village similar to an original settlement to show how the pioneer settlers of the area lived and worked.

The entire project, apart from two persons, is made up of a volunteer work force. There are two employees; a retired architect employed on a fee basis to inspect and report on the buildings which become available, and a full time treasurer.

The village currently has unpaved roads and boardwalks, and 25 buildings, mostly dwellings. Some of the featured exhibits include;

A church

A general store which sells produce from the farm and mill, mainly vegetables, flour, bread, biscuits, candies and souvenirs such as hand woven goods made on hand looms

A hotel that does not rent out accommodations but serves lunches in the saloon

A blacksmith shop and stables where horseshoes, farm implements and household articles are hand-made

A carpenter shop where demonstrations are given on furniture, barrel and wheel making

A mill building where demonstrations are given on the grinding of wheat into flour

Various other trade buildings

Homes furnished with period household goods

A small farm growing fruits and vegetables, and housing a couple of cows, some ducks and chickens

Most of the goods made on the premises are also available for sale.

Tours are arranged mainly of school children and seniors' groups. The popularity as a tourist attraction has been steadily growing. The attraction is becoming a regular part of a number of bus tours. The revenue is increasing each year enabling the company to seek additional buildings and to extend its activities. Future plans are for hay and sleigh rides, weddings and an annual country fair.
