If a friend of yours earns $150,000 per year and you earn $100,000 is this a problem if the income was earned in a fair and legal manner? Is the question is the U.S., not what the top 1% earn or should it be what percent of income earners have an annual income at the poverty level or earning an income that is at or below the lower level of what is considered a middle class income? Would tax rates fit the problem?
