Open Water Zone - Lake Ecosystem
This extends beyond the littoral zone and is too deep for light to penetrate till the bottom and for rooted plants to grow. This zone is divided on the basis of light penetration and distribution of organisms into:
- Limnetic region which is photic
- Profundal region which is aphotic
