National Patient Safety Goalsare used by the Joint Commission to evaluate performance in healthcare organizations. The purpose of the National Patient Safety Goals is to improve patient safety. The goals focus on problems in health care safety and give input on how to solve them. What items are related to quality documentation and/ or how quality documentation could improve a particular item in each facility type. Discuss items for ALL 3 types of facilities! For Example:
One of the Behavioral Health NPSG's is to Identify client safety risks- quality documentation from the physician would have to indicate this, how else would anyone in the facility know that the patient maybe suicidal or a danger to himself or others. As a Health Information professional it is your job to audit records for pertinent information like this.
