4. Discuss some ways in which interest groups have a positive influence on the "public interest" or the "public good." Discuss some ways in which special interests can have a negative influence. Give one or more examples Think about groups that you have had experiences with or that you have read about in the news. There are tens of thousands of interest groups, so you should be able to think of some. Also, do not use examples that other students have already written about.
5. Pluralist theory argues that society's interests are represented by the activities, including lobbying, of organized groups. Supporters of pluralism believe that the competition among groups is healthy and leads to compromise and consensus over policies. Critics argue that pluralism is flawed and that some groups have too much influence and power. What do you think about this debate? Of the three theories of interest groups which do you believe is the most accurate theory.
